Cheltenham Ladies College

While working for Landscape Architecture practice Illman Young between 2004-6 I ran various re-planting projects at the Ladies College, and oversaw the creation of two new terraces - one outside the staff room, and another linking a classroom block with an open garden area. The staff terrace needed some enclosure while retaining views and access out to the main lawn.  This was achieved with rectangular block plantings of grasses and iris, reflecting the staff room’s modernist style of architecture.  The classroom terrace needed to allow for a high volume of pedestrian traffic and was quite minimal in design, with two tall birch trees, and simple blocks of Buxus sempervirens and Lavender.
