Farmhouse in Gloucestershire

I worked with a local property developer on his project to restore an old farmhouse, and to convert two barns into homes. The brief was to create private gardens for the three properties and to enhance a central courtyard area that had once been the farmyard.  The simple contemporary style of the renovated barns lent itself to bold sweeps of grasses, and a planting of silver birch trees in the central courtyard.  The barn boors had been replaced with dramatic floor to ceiling windows, which I balanced with generous areas of decking in western red cedar.

The farmhouse itself had a neglected garden with some beautiful specimen trees. The brief was to create a garden in a contemporary style, which was child friendly, with a swimming pool and terraces for eating outside.
