I took over this garden from my in-laws when we moved here in 2010. We have a large sheltered courtyard leading to a walled potager style vegetable garden with Box edged beds, and a sunny lawn to the front of the house with a large herbaceous border.

 

I have kept the structure of the vegetable garden, but replaced the vegetables with grasses and herbaceous perennials, opening up some of the Box edged beds by removing sections of hedging. The Box still provides a strong dark backdrop to the plants, but they are less hemmed in.

​The large herbaceous border to the front of the house was swamped with nettles and couch grass when we moved in, so last spring I dug up every plant and thoroughly weeded before replanting with a mix of perennials and grasses including Miscanthus, Persaicaria, Sedum, Knautia and Salvia.
